Apple Mac Pro MB535LL/A Desktop Do Not Buy - Swell -
Had this for six months.

It’s Windows 95 with the worst customer service. They actually charge you to read from a book that solves nothing.

If you are an unsophisticated user that doesn’t mind 1995 software technology then buy the Mac Pro with Snow Leopard.

There is so much software that Apple just does not support, and so many things that you just can’t do on a Mac, that I really expected some polish. It’s all form over substance, and quite honestly - bad form. Apple only does simple, but still can’t get it right.

You thought this was a multimedia machine? Do your research. Apple is no longer better than PC’s with Windows for graphic or video development.

They roll out OSX updates every 100 days or so. Every time, a slew of users lose functionality. Apple may fix it - IN THE NEXT UPDATE - 107 days later.

Weird thing is - the cult of Apple users accept this. If you look at Apple support forums (only offers other user support) you will see that Mac owners often go several updates (longer than a year in some cases) without sound, wireless connectivity, etc.

You really want this junk? buy mine - 1/2 price.
I have been a loyal PC and Windows user since the first edition of Windows hit the market in the early 1980’s. I built my first computer back in the days of the old AT form factor and have continued to do so along with keeping my operating system up to date by purchasing the newest Windows editions right after my beta version would expire.
Recently my youngest daughter decided to further her education go for yet another degree in graphic design using an on line course system. A new Mac Pro notebook and some specific software were included in the fees for the classes and services. I was/am so impressed with her new Mac that I just had to have one. So I purchased a new Mac Pro desk top. The computer is so superior to the PC in every way it’s just a pleasure to turn it on. The OSX 10.6.2 is the most user friendly easy to use operating system I have ever encountered….and it’s trouble free. Not like all of my many Windows systems.
So Mr. Gates after a long bumpy ride of over twenty years with Windows problems and performance it’s time to say good by to the PC and to your OS…. and hello to a better experience.

Regards, Jim
Apple: MB535LL/A Enter the Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehalem” processor. Its single-die, 64-bit architecture makes 8MB of fully shared L3 cache readily available to each of the four processor cores. The result is fast access to cache data and greater application performance. Combine that with the other technological advances and you get a Mac Pro that’s up to 1.9x faster than the previous generation. All-new high-performance graphics cards from NVIDIA make Mac Pro graphics technology faster than before. Perfect for motion graphics, 3D modeling, rendering, or animation, the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB of GDDR3 memory comes standard and provides up to 2.9x the performance of previous Mac Pro standard graphics cards. The Mac Pro also has four 3.5-inch internal hard drive bays that allows for an enormous amount of internal storage, up to 4TB. These bays are direct-attach and cable free, just attach the drive carrier to a Serial ATA hard drive and slide the drive into place. Install more memory in your Mac Pro in a snap. Literally. The redesigned interior lets you slide out the processor tray in one smooth motion, then simply snap new memory into place. You don’t have to dig around inside the computer or wrestle with wires or cables. The quad-core Mac Pro offers eight slots that support up to 32GB of 1066MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM. If you’re looking for a powerful and a sweet looking desktop this is the one for you. NVIDIA GeForce GT120 with 512MB GDDR3 Dedicated Video Memory 18x SuperDrive (DVD+-RW DL/CD-RW) Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR Two independent 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet Front ports - 2 x FireWire 800, 2 x USB 2.0, Headphone Minijack and Speaker Back ports - 2 x FireWire 800, 3 x USB 2.0, Optical Digital Audio In/Out TOSLINK ports, Stereo line-level input/output, 2 RJ-45, DVI, Mini DisplayPort Expansion slots - 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x4, PCI Express 2.0 x16 Monitor is not included Powered by Intel’s latest “Nehalem” Xeon processor and featuring a next-generation system architecture, the Apple Mac Pro desktop PC delivers up to twice the performance of its predecessor. Offering maximum performance, it includes two hyper-threaded 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors with a new Turbo Boost feature that automatically boosts the processor clock speed based on workload. An updated interior provides easy access to all components within the Mac Pro for hassle-free expansion and massive upgrade ability–up to 8 GB of 800 MHz RAM and four hard drive bays for up to 4 TB (that’s right–terabytes) of storage under the hood. And while it comes standard with a 16x SuperDrive (compatible with burning DVD±R/RW and CD-R/RW discs), you can also add a second writing SuperDrive.

Continuing Apple’s commitment to the environment, the new Mac Pro exceeds Energy Star 4.0 requirements and is leading the industry as an early adopter of the more stringent Energy Star 5.0 requirements which will become effective later this year. The Mac Pro enclosure is made of highly recyclable aluminum and the interior is designed to be more material-efficient.

This model of the Mac Pro (MB535LL/A) features a 640 GB hard drive, 6 GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB GDDR3 memory, Mini DisplayPort and dual-link DVI video output, and a plethora of USB 2.0 and FireWire 800 ports on the back and front of the chassis. It comes pre-loaded with Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system–an operating system custom-designed for the advanced technology inside–and it also comes with the iLife ‘09 suite of applications, including iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, and iTunes.

The Nehalem Advantage
Many quad-core processors are composed of two separate dies, which means some cached data has to travel outside the processor to get from core to core. That’s an inefficient way to access information. Enter the Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehalem processor. Its single-die, 64-bit architecture makes 8 MB of fully shared L3 cache readily available to each of the four processor cores. The result is fast access to cache data and greater application performance.

The next-generation system architecture delivers up to twice the performance of the previous generation Mac Pro system.

Smart design makes installing massive amounts of memory, adding expansion cards, and increasing storage surprisingly simple.

See larger image.

System memory is often connected to a processor through a separate I/O controller. But each Intel Xeon Nehalem processor features an integrated memory controller–another leap forward for workstation system architecture. By connecting memory directly to the processor, the new Mac Pro processors have faster access to data stored in memory, and memory latency is reduced by up to 40 percent. The integrated memory controller, along with fast 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM, also gives Mac Pro up to a 2.4x increase in memory bandwidth over previous generations. More bandwidth allows for more data to be fed to the processor faster, helping each core spend its time processing data, not waiting for information to arrive. And Error Correction Code (ECC) corrects single-bit errors and detects multiple-bit errors automatically. That’s especially important in mission-critical and compute-intensive environments.

The new Mac Pro introduces Turbo Boost: a dynamic performance technology that automatically boosts the processor clock speed based on workload. If you’re using an application that doesn’t need every core, Turbo Boost shuts off the idle cores while simultaneously increasing the speed of the active ones. The new Intel Xeon Nehalem processor also supports Hyper-Threading, which allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core.

This model of Mac Pro is powered by a two 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor–each one including 8 MB of fully shared L3 cache per processor–with an integrated memory controller, 128-bit SSE4 SIMD engine, and 64-bit data paths and registers.

Storage and Memory
This model of Mac Pro includes a 640 GB Serial ATA (3Gb/s; 7200 rpm), but it comes with four 3.5-inch internal hard drive bays for an enormous amount of internal storage–up to 4 TB. Each bay provides its own independent 3Gb/s channel for fast access to data. For the ultimate in data protection and enhanced performance, add the new Mac Pro RAID Card with 512MB of RAID cache, a 72-hour cache-protecting battery, and hardware RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 0+1. A new cableless connection and intuitive Apple software make it a snap to install this optional card.

It’s also equipped right out of the box with 6 GB (six 1 GB DIMMs) of 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM. It includes four memory slots supporting up to 8 GB of main memory using 1 GB or 2 GB DIMMs.

Graphics
If you’re a pro who wants a desktop computer that keeps pace with your imagination, the Mac Pro delivers with faster graphics application performance across the board. Whether you’re decoding H.264 content in Final Cut Pro, creating 3D graphics in Motion, processing massive RAW images in Aperture, or playing the latest games, the graphics hardware in the new Mac Pro makes graphics applications faster. This Mac Pro comes standard with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics processor, which includes 512MB of discrete GDDR3 video memory–perfect for motion graphics, 3D modeling, rendering, or animation.

Expansion and Connectivity
The redesigned interior of the new Mac Pro feels like the well-organized workstation it is. No rat’s nest of components here. You don’t need to turn the system on its side or struggle to reach into awkward spaces to make changes. Just remove the side panel for instant, easy access to everything. Slide out the processor tray to add memory. Slide out hard drive bays to add storage. Slide a simple bar to change up to four expansion cards at once. And with plenty of I/O ports both front and back, you’ll have room for all your external devices.

When it’s time to upgrade, a quick slide of the retention bar frees up the four expansion card slots for easy access. Thanks to a thumbscrew PCI bracket, you can swap out cards without any tools. All four slots are now PCI Express 2.0 for up to twice the performance of the previous generation. And since the graphics slot in the Mac Pro is double-wide, your graphics card won’t cover an adjacent slot.

The Mac Pro comes with four 3.5-inch internal hard drive bays for an enormous amount of internal storage–up to 4TB. The bays are direct-attach and cable free, so it’s easy to add or remove drives. Just attach the drive carrier to a Serial ATA 3Gb/s drive and slide the drive into place. There are no connectors or cables to contend with. Lock the drives with the side door latch, and you’re done. Install more memory in your Mac Pro in a snap. Literally. The redesigned interior lets you slide out the processor tray in one smooth motion, then simply snap new memory into place. You don’t have to dig around inside the computer or wrestle with wires or cables.

There are plenty of places to connect external devices to your Mac Pro. You’ll find two FireWire 800 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, and a headphone minijack right up front–where it’s more convenient to connect storage, multimedia devices, and high-speed peripherals. And there are even more ports on the back: three USB 2.0, two FireWire 800, optical audio in and out, analog audio in and out, and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports.

The Greenest Mac Pro Yet
Even though the Mac Pro is the fastest Mac ever, nearly 2x faster than before, it is also more energy efficient. The energy-efficient hardware components in the Mac Pro work hand in hand with Mac OS X to create a system that can dynamically adjust power consumption to reduce the overall energy used. For instance, the CPU architecture allows individual cores to go into a low-power state to reduce energy consumption when they are not needed. The graphics card does the same, reducing power draw when not running graphics-intensive applications. The result is a smarter and more energy-efficient system that is not only as fast as possible when you need it, but also throttles down power use when it’s not needed. Compared with the previous-generation Mac Pro, the power used when the system is idle has been reduced by 15 percent.

The Mac Pro meets the stringent power requirements set by the EPA, earning ENERGY STAR certification. In addition, it meets the latest efficiency requirements of ENERGY STAR Version 5.0 Specification for Computers before its July 2009 effective date. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies as well as aggressive limits for the computer’s typical annual power consumption. It has also earned the highest rating of EPEAT Gold. The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, or EPEAT, evaluates the environmental impact of a product based on how recyclable it is, how much energy it uses, and how it’s designed and manufactured.

Apple iMac Desktop 15″ M9105LL/A (800-MHz PowerPC G4, 256 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) Very prompt - Jack Peer Sr. - Granbury,TX USA
I am very satisfied with the product and how quickly i received it
For years I have dealt with PC’s. The freezing up at inappropriate moments, the noise, how they often lag. With some nudging from my girl friend and mother who both have used Macs extensively, I looked into them, and purchased the iMac,, and I have never been so happy using a computer. It used to be a major headache just to open attachments on an e-mail, often times ending in a colorful proliferation of four letter words being bandied about. But with the iMac, the most simple things are just that simple. Sure there may be some drawbacks such as a couple of web sites have glitches when viewing, but the bottom line is that does not matter.

If you’re tired of a non user friendly computer which is always crashing. A system to use at home which won’t make you want to trash it, this is your answer. Apple: M9105LL/A Now you can burn professional-quality DVDs twice as fast as before, and surf the Internet wirelessly from anywhere in your house at phenomenal speeds. But not everything about the iMac can be expressed in numbers. After all, how do you quantify such attributes as friendliness, ease of use, freedom to convert an unlimited number of songs from your CDs into MP3 files, and its built-in fun factor? You might even say that the iMac’s most widely quoted statistic may be how fast it lets first-time users get online - right out of the box. In the past that number has varied, depending on how long each individual owner paused to admire his or her iMac after unpacking it. And chances are, given this computer’s futuristic good looks, this time around your first look could take rather a long time indeed. Unlike most desktop computer manufacturers, Apple likes to keep its lineup refreshingly simple. Even its most revolutionary computer of recent years, the iMac, exists currently in only two separate iterations. This model, the iMac Desktop 15″ M9105LL/A, offers the same sleek, space-efficient design and strong esthetic appeal of its more capable sibling, the iMac Desktop 17″ M8935LL/A, but with a little less power and a more friendly price point.

Driven by a powerful 800 MHz PowerPC G4 CPU and 256 MB SDRAM memory (expandable to one full GB), the iMac Desktop 15″ M9105LL/A is ready to handle most any standard computer task. To ensure the machine doesn’t bog down during most graphically intensive operations, Apple has included an nVidia GeForce4 MX graphics processor with 32 MB DDR video memory. Those who work primarily with complex 3D applications may want to look at this system’s bigger brother, which includes, among other upgrades, a 64 MB graphics card and a 1 GHz PowerPC processor.

The iMac Desktop 15″ M9105LL/A’s miniature, dome-shaped housing (10.6-inch footprint) usurps very little desktop space, and its 15-inch flat-screen LCD viewing screen looks great on top of its swiveling, extendable neck. The system is equipped with an adequate 60 GB hard drive and a combination DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive through which you can backup files, burn and enjoy audio CDs, and watch the latest movies. Apple has added two ultra-high speed FireWire 400 ports for fast interaction with external devices such as video camcorders, five traditional USB 1.1 ports for peripherals such as digital cameras and joysticks, an integrated speaker, headphone jack, and built-in microphone.

Connectivity options include an integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet port, a 56K modem, and wireless support (with the addition of an Apple AirPort card). An Apple Pro Mouse and Apple Pro keyboard complete the hardware picture. The iMac Desktop 15″ M9105LL/A is bundled with Apple’s next-generation operating system, Mac OS X v.10.2 Jaguar, and Mac OS 9. Apple Mac mini MB464LL/A Desktop

Apple Mac mini MB464LL/A Desktop Good computer for a basic user, but has an issue - Jonathan O. Behrmann -
After all the hype from my brother who works in digital design my wife and I bought a mac mini. All we do is music, photos, type a document up, and surf the net. I bought an external hard drive since memory is pricey on macs. I enjoy this machine much more than my former uses on a windows OS or on Ubuntu from my Linux machine, everything is streamlined and very easy.

However, the biggest issue is the cd drive doesn’t always read the cd, or can’t eject the disk. Reboot the sucker, play around with this or that, read an online forum to fix it this way or that way. But the bottom line is cds get stuck for me a bit too regularly. It like owning a fancy sports car and the door won’t open or shut, and you sit there opening your doors with a coat hanger.
Part of why people buy Mac computers (other than the fact that they work, continue to work, and then work some more) is the clean design. With the Mac Mini, you get a super duper Mac computer with all the reliability and great apps, all in a well designed little computer.

But then you have to connect all your cr… stuff. If you are moving your PC (and peripherals) to the Mac Mini, all those ugly cords are still making a mess behind that pretty (yet running) machine. As I was connecting everything, I was thinking, “just another reason I hate PC’s” (other than the fact that they stop working).

Great bang for your buck though. And since I couldn’t go out and buy all new Mac peripherals, this is still worth it. Apple: MB464LL/A Apple Mac Mini 2.0GHz Processor 320GB Hard Drive Faster. The Mac mini also now includes a FireWire 800 port as well as dual video outputs–a Mini DisplayPort and a Mini-DVI port.

With a more powerful system architecture, Mac mini is faster than ever.

Continuing Apple’s commitment to the environment, the Mac mini exceeds current Energy Star 4.0 requirements by consuming less than 13 watts when idle 45 percent less power than the previous generation. It’s also made from highly recyclable aluminum, uses PVC-free internal components and cables, contains no brominated flame retardants, and even features smaller packaging.

Inside its 2-inch-tall, 6.5-inch-square anodized aluminum enclosure, the Mac mini houses the fast Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

This model of the Mac mini also includes a 320 GB hard drive, 2 GB of RAM (4 GB max), a slot-loading 8x SuperDrive with double-layer support, Draft-N Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g/n), Gigabit wired networking, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR connectivity, and optical digital audio input/outputs.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Experience improved energy efficiency and improved multitasking with the 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which also offers an ultra-fast 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a large 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The new hafnium-infused circuitry–which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors–conserves even more energy, giving you more time away from the wall outlet. With a substantial 3 MB of shared L2 cache, data and instructions can be kept close to the two processor cores, greatly increasing performance and allowing the entire system to work more efficiently. And, because the processor cores share the L2 cache, either can use the entire amount if the other happens to be idle.

Hard Drive and Memory
The 320 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data–akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. The 2 GB of DDR3 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 1 GB) have an industry leading 1066 MHz speed, and the RAM capacity can be increased to 4 GB.

Wireless Connectivity
The built-in 802.11n wireless networking provides up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g, but it’s also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g routers, enabling you to communicate with the a wide variety of Wi-Fi resources. It works seamlessly with the new AirPort Extreme with 802.11n. Use the built-in Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to your PDA or cell phone, synchronize addresses, or download pictures from your cell phone. You can also use a wireless headset for iChat audio chats and VoIP calls as well as quickly share files with a colleague.

Graphics Processor
The Mac mini now features the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor for up to five times better graphics performance than its predecessor, and its dual display support can drive two Apple or third-party displays with Mini DisplayPort or DVI connections. The NVIDIA GeForce 9400M shares 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM with main memory. You’ll notice the difference when you work with high-resolution photos and high-definition video, where graphics-intensive features in iPhoto and iMovie are smoother. And 3D game play–from Spore to Call of Duty–is faster and more responsive.

The Greenest Mac mini Yet
The energy-efficient hardware components in the new Mac mini work hand in hand with Mac OS X to create a system that can dynamically adjust power consumption to reduce the energy used overall. The new Mac mini uses an advanced power management system leveraged from technology that makes the most of battery life in Apple’s MacBook family. This allows Mac mini to use dramatically less electricity–up to 45 percent less power at idle than its predecessor. And it makes Mac mini the most energy-efficient desktop computer (based on energy efficiency categories and products listed within the EPA ENERGY STAR 4.0 database as of February 2009).

Apple has worked hard to eliminate many of the toxins that are a common part of computer manufacturing. Apple engineers removed brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from circuit boards, internal cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, and more in Mac mini. And the Mac mini uses a combination of highly recyclable aluminum and polycarbonate to create its incredibly compact enclosure–making it one of the most material-efficient desktop computers available.

The Mac mini meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, giving it ENERGY STAR certification. In addition, Mac mini meets the latest efficiency requirements of ENERGY STAR Version 5.0 Specification for Computers before its July 2009 effective date. It has also earned the highest rating of EPEAT Gold. The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, or EPEAT, evaluates the environmental impact of a product based on how recyclable it is, how much energy it uses, and how it’s designed and manufactured.

#5. THE AREA WHERE MAC IS FAR SUPERIOR IS…….creating movies or slideshows, with music. Far superior than windows while being very simple.

I’ll never go back to windows. I dropped by several “computer repair” stores. Here’s what I heard from the
repair people “Never get Mac’s in here due to software problems, if we depended on Mac’s for our business, we
wouldn’t be in business very long. Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Experience faster, more nimble application performance and improved energy efficiency with this 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Its hafnium-infused circuitry–which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors–helps to reduce power consumption while delivering. powerful processing speeds. This 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo processor is aided by a 1066 front-side bus speed and a super-sized 6 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The Intel Core 2 Duo’s 128-bit SSE3 vector engine handles 128-bit computations in a single clock cycle, accelerating data manipulation by simultaneously applying a single instruction to multiple data. And its two execution cores are designed to share resources and conserve power, helping it to achieve higher levels of performance since it uses fewer watts.

Hard Drive and Memory
The 640 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data–akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. The 4 GB of DDR3 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 2 GB) have an industry leading 1066 MHz speed, and the RAM capacity can be increased to 8 GB.

Graphics and Video
The 24-inch widescreen TFT active-matrix LCD offers a resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels. It has a brightness rating of 385 cd/m2 (candela per square meter), a contrast ratio of 750:1, and a viewing angle of 160 degrees (both horizontal and vertical).

This iMac also enables you to connect a second display in either extended desktop mode or video mirroring mode. The Mini DisplayPort port offers support for DVI, dual-link DVI, and VGA video connections via an optional adapter.

Wired and Wireless Connectivity
The iMac gives you plenty of room to grow, accommodating as many as six peripherals at a time thanks to its four USB 2.0 ports and the two USB 2.0 ports on the Apple Keyboard. It also includes a single powered FireWire 800 port (one of the fastest peripheral standards available)–enabling you to quickly transfer content from compatible digital video cameras, hard drives, and other high-speed devices.

Share files around your house with built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet as well as the next-generation high-speed wireless 802.11n technology, which is integrated into the latest Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. The iMac is also Wi-Fi Certified to work with base stations and routers that use industry-standard 802.11a, 802.11b, or 802.11g wireless technologies.

You get a full complement of ports on the back of the iMac, including four USB 2.0 and one Firewire 800.

The Greenest iMac Yet
The energy-efficient hardware components in the iMac work hand in hand with Mac OS X to create a system that can dynamically adjust power consumption to reduce the energy used overall. The iMac uses an advanced power management system leveraged from the technology that makes the most of battery life in Apple’s MacBook family. To reduce energy consumption, the iMac hard drive spins down automatically when inactive, and it also decides which processor–CPU or GPU–is best suited to perform a task efficiently. That means when iMac is idle, it’s using as little power as possible.

Apple engineers have worked hard to eliminate many of the toxins that are a common part of desktop computer manufacturing, such as choosing arsenic-free display glass for iMac. They have also removed brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from circuit boards, internal cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, and more. And the entire iMac computer is integrated into an enclosure made from a single, solid piece of recyclable aluminum, while the display is made of recyclable glass.
